Alabama is a shawl that combines knitting and crochet. Jersey and double crochet, the perfect mix to get started with knitting and crochet and have fun!

We begin by knitting the center section in stockinette stitch with openwork rows, a series of increases, and short rows. You can end the shawl at this stage or finish with a crochet section. For the crochet section, we pick up stitches to work in double crochet.

Bonus:

The crochet section can be used to use up leftover yarn, play with colors (stripes or gradients), or stick with a solid version.

You can also add fringes to accentuate a folk style.
